Welcome one and all to my blog page, where I will be sharing what is going on in my life, current art projects and general thoughts that occupy my mind. This section of my website will be a once a month posting, summing up main themes within my current art projects, but also giving you guys some insight into my life as an artist and human.
This month I have been thinking a lot about new beginnings. Which all people can relate to on so many levels, big or small. The small things being anything from drinking more water, deciding on growing a vegetable garden this season, or going to get yourself a new haircut. The big stuff could be moving across the world to live in another country, going back to university, or getting married to the love of your life (All of which I have coincidentally accomplished over this past year, but more of that later). My point is, whether these changes are big or small they matter. For example, I have been living in Munich, Germany for just under a year now and I am in a constant stage of figuring out where I belong as an individual, student, and professional artist. This website is an example of a new beginning for me. It is a way to express myself in a professional sense and to be part of a larger art community.
I don't know about you guys, but I also feel that timing is everything when you think of new beginnings. Some things you can just make the argument that you should try something new because you have been putting off forever or for no good reason at all. Do it now and don’t over think your life. But then again, a lot of things that I am currently working on would not have been possible 5 years ago. I wasn’t emotionally ready to come up with that one art piece or professionally ready to put myself out there as an artist. Creative projects like that put you in a vulnerable state and that is why I always admire people that do it. It is brave to begin something new, to try and be better and to expose yourself to new experiences. This is why I constantly like to surround myself with people that are always up for a bit of change. I feel like it is a community where we support and push each other forwards in whatever we are doing in our lives.
So my advice is to embrace people around you that build you up and get you to think about bettering yourself. Even if you think that something is too hard, or maybe even impossible… just remember, one thing you cannot get back is time. If you feel like you are meant to do something maybe you are. Take steps to accomplish new things and create your own new beginnings, whether they are big or small.
